Dr. Enuf is a Johnson City tradition. I’ve spent a decent amount of time in Johnson City, but somehow I’ve never tried Dr. Enuf. My brother-in-law has described it as being very sweet, the bottle says that it’s the “Original Energy Booster”. It has two different types of Vitamin B in it, which is not something you often see in true sodas.
Typically when I’m in Johnson City to visit my sister & her family, I drink as much Cheerwine as my garish body can handle. Regional sodas are one of my favorite things, just knowing that certain sodas are thriving in certain areas of the US while barely existing in other areas is such an odd thing. I can think of many times when I’ve told people my favorite soda is Cheerwine, only to have to explain 1. What the heck it is, and 2. That there’s no “wine” involved. Ahh well, say lah vee, am I right?

AROMATICS: 8/10
Very pleasant smell! Almost a combination of a sort of lemon-lime soda and a ginger ale.
FIRST SIP: 8.5/10
Definitely digging this taste so far. The aromatics were pretty indicative of what the taste is.
TASTE: 8/10
So here is the thing: there’s a background taste that I cannot quite put my finger on. It’s not awful, but it’s just slightly off-putting. I think it may have to do with the added vitamins, but I’d argue that may be a reasonable tradeoff. Either way, it’s still a very tasty and moderately unique soda.
AFTERTASTE: 9/10
Aftertaste is nice, no bitterness, lingers for the right amount of time!
MOUTHFEEL: 7.5/10
Standard mouthfeel, nothing too extraordinary.
DEPTH OF FLAVOR: 6.5/10
So it’s not the most in-depth soda ever, but it’s got enough to be enjoyable.
SWEETNESS: 8.5/10
Definitely sweeter than some sodas! I like it, it’s not overbearingly sweet to be sure.
FLAVOR(S) TASTED: Lemony, limey goodness, a little bit of ginger.
LAST SIP: 8.5/10
Retains the flavor VERY well. Carbonation stays pretty decently.
OVERALL RATING: 8/10
I feel like 8/10 is the perfect rating here. While it tastes good, smells good, and is just all in all delightful, it’s not a SUPER depthful soda. I will absolutely be purchasing more next time I’m in the area, but it’s nothing I’ll be custom ordering or stockpiling. I’m happy to say I’ve finally had this tasty tradition from Johnson City!
