This is another situation where that happened! The label for Avery’s Root Beer is excellently designed and jumped out at me immediately. I’d also say that it gives me a certain amount of confidence when I see the “Established 1904” on the label. If they’ve been in business that long, they’re probably doing something right, right?

Root beer is delicious and I am excited to drink Avery’s. Is it going to be good stuff? It’s in a clear bottle, which strikes me as slightly odd. Typically, root beer manufacturers will follow the fact that most beers are put into darkened glass bottles, but Avery’s bucked that trend. Perhaps they’re trying to get across the idea that “yeah, our root beer is already dark and beautiful and can’t be spoiled by puny things like the sun, so we’re good”. If so, I like it. The sun is puny.

Place of Acquirement: Rocket Fizz, Winona Lake, IN

Drinking Vessel/Portion: 12 oz clear bottle.

AROMATICS: 8.5/10

Smells like it’s going to be super sweet! Almost reminds me of Mug Root Beer. Fingers crossed it has a little more depth than Mug…

FIRST SIP: 7.5/10

A good start! Definitely not an all out blitzkreig of sweetness like I expected from the scent. Has a little bit of a variety of flavor.

TASTE: 7/10

It’s definitely good! Not the most revolutionary taste ever, but I like it. It’s good. Unlike my CD copy of “Aaron’s Party”, I don’t regret purchasing this. (OK, I don’t regret purchasing my copy of “Aaron’s Party” either tbh).

AFTERTASTE: 8.5/10

Very nice aftertaste! Mostly sweet and not nuanced, but I’m just happy anytime it’s not bitter, to be frank.

MOUTHFEEL: 7.5/10

Nicely smooth! I don’t know the science of carbonation, but this soda really does well to retain carbonation, but not have it slap you in the face. Each sip I found myself saying “oh yeah, this is pleasant oh wait AND it’s carbonated? NICE!”

DEPTH OF FLAVOR: 6.5/10

It’s not entirely lacking depth, but it’s not a soda you want to immerse yourself in. It tastes closer to a mass market root beer by Soda Brand Soda Corp than it does a craft root beer by Microbrew Bearded Boys Company. But it’s definitely a better root beer than Soda Brand Soda Corp’s version!

SWEETNESS: 8.5/10

Not overbearingly sweet, but still a bit sweeter than average, I’d say. Not in a bad way!

FLAVOR(S) TASTED: Root beer, root beer, a little more root beer.

LAST SIP: 9/10

Retained the taste and carbonation very well, good to taste.

OVERALL RATING: 7.5/10

Y’know, back in the early 2000s, I was showing my copy of “Aaron’s Party” to my older brother and he offered to fake sign it. I let him do it, and I remember thinking it looked really convincing and good. I saw it recently and, uh, it was not convincing or good. To my older brother, I’m sorry to tell you this, but your Aaron Carter signature forging skills were not up to par back in 2001.

Oh yeah, the soda review. Much like Aaron Carter in his glory days: this is good stuff. It’s not the greatest thing you’ll ever taste in your life, but it’s good! I wouldn’t shy away from drinking another. The label is very aesthetically pleasing as well. I’d recommend it!

If you’ve paid some attention, might know that I have a habit of picking sodas based on their labels.
