I love a good ginger ale. There are many out in the world that just don’t get the ginger right. Some have a mere suggestion of ginger, others have an absolute boatload. Ideally, you have a situation where you can definitely feel the ginger. The sort of tingle it gives you needs<\/em> to be there. If it’s too much, however, it can be really off-putting. I don’t want to feel like my throat is on fire! Sweetness needs to come in to balance and compliment the ginger, not take over as the main feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boylan Bottling Co. is one of the more readily available indie soda brands. I’ve been to multiple restaurants that had it in their fountains, as well as plenty of others that had bottles to sell. While I’ve always enjoyed it when I had it, I’ve never thought critically about it. Their soda exists as “good, and I’m glad it’s around” in my mind. But HOW good? Let’s find out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place of Acquirement: <\/strong>Giant Eagle, Bexley, OH<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drinking Vessel\/Portion: <\/strong>12fl oz green bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AROMATICS: <\/strong>6\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little weak. Not much in the way of tingle (this would be way below, for instance, a Vernors). But that’s not the end of the world by any means!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FIRST SIP: <\/strong>8\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am very intrigued! This seems to have much stronger flavors of lemon\/lime than other ginger ales. Sweetness seems good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TASTE: <\/strong>8.5\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ginger situation is tough. The taste is there, but without the kick you’d expect. My thought is that they designed this ginger ale to have the ginger flavor boosted by the lemon and lime so you. So you still get the ginger taste, but not the tingly kick that other ginger ales may bring. I don’t know how to feel about this! I know I like it, though!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFTERTASTE: <\/strong>8.5\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After taste is good. Sweetness, lemon\/lime tastes linger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MOUTHFEEL: <\/strong>7.5\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It feels a tad less carbonated than most sodas. Not a detriment, though, it’s still nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DEPTH OF FLAVOR: <\/strong>8.5\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They did better than I expected here! The lemon\/lime adds to the soda, that is for sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWEETNESS: <\/strong>8\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feels a little sweeter than the average soda (and certainly sweeter than, say, a Canada Dry). Good level of sweetness in my book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FLAVOR(S) TASTED: <\/strong>Ginger, lemon, lime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LAST SIP:<\/strong> 8\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carbonation maybe loses a little bit, but flavor is still perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OVERALL RATING: <\/strong>8.5\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y’know, this one was not what I was expecting. It was a pleasant surprise. Boylan really made a soda that tastes different from your average ginger ale but is still a ginger ale. While I think I would’ve enjoyed a tad more of the ginger flavor, it is still pretty good. While this doesn’t get the same rating as Ale-8-One, it is definitely in the same stratosphere as it. They’re both great in different ways! Good on ya, Boylan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
